Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology & Food and Nutrition

The Bachelor study programme is designed primarily for applicants from abroad. All courses are conducted in English. The study programme is accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and is in accordance with the requirements of the Bologna Process – European Higher Education Area. Note that students pay a tuition fee for participating in this programme.

The study programme Chemistry and Technology at Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology has two specializations. Students choose a specialization during their first year of study.

If you are interested in Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology, the specialization Biochemistry and Biotechnology is good way to go.

If you are interested in Food and Nutrition, the specialization Food Chemistry and Technology is good way to go.

Graduates

The main aims of the study programme are to prepare graduates—all of whom acquire excellent theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and experience in their field of study—for continuing their studies at the Master level and/or to prepare them for professional positions.

Chemistry and Technology (Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology)

Chemistry and Technology (Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology)

At the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology, students direct their studies either to biochemistry, microbiology, and biotechnology or to food chemistry, food analysis, nutrition, and food technologies on the other side by properly selecting optional courses.

Careers

The main aim of this study programme is to prepare graduates for further Master studies in related branches at UCT Prague or for qualified positions in specialized workplaces. Graduates have excellent theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and experience in basic natural scientific disciplines. Graduates are qualified for jobs in biotechnological and food companies, in nutrition-oriented fields, in environmental protection institutions, and in health care and pharmaceutical enterprises. They can also find positions in company laboratories, in supervisory and monitoring agencies, and in trade and administration.

You can choose one of two specializations offered by this faculty.

Specialisation - Biochemistry and Biotechnology

By choosing Biochemistry and Biotechnology, students have the opportunity to focus on biochemistry and various types of biotechnologies. The specialization thus provides both general biochemistry knowledge as well as skills in various biotechnological areas such as producing pure chemicals, biologically active molecules, and biofuels. This specialization also provides skills for technologies that solve environmental problems.
