Summary

The subject is aimed at the fundamentals of processing and utilization of fossil and alternative fuels. Students get information about processing technologies of petroleum, coal and natural gas and information about the properties of final products and ways of their distribution. A part of the subject is also focused on alternative liquid and gaseous fuels.

Syllabus

1. Crude oil origin, production, consumption and chemical composition
2. Atmospheric and vacuum distillation of crude oil, thermal and catalytic cracking of high-boiling crude oil fractions
3. Catalytic hydrocracking of high-boiling crude oil fractions, production of hydrogen and sulfane treatment
4. Refining technologies for production and treatment of motor fuels
5. Properties and utilization of motor fuels
6. Motor fuels distribution
7. Production and properties of lubricating and heating oils and bitumens
8. Alternative liquid motor fuels
9. Coal and other solid fuels - origin, reserves; basic physical and chemical properties; mining, treatment
10. Coal pyrolysis, products and treatment
11. Coal gasification, products, treatment and utilization
12. Gaseous fuels - classification, production, basic properties
13. Natural gas - production, treatment, transportation and distribution
14. Alternative gaseous fuels - hydrogen, biogas, LPG, LNG, CNG
