Study Plan

Courses are divided into three categories:

  • Compulsory courses
  • Compulsory-elective courses
  • Elective courses

At the end of each semester, you must complete all courses required by the study plan.

Bear in mind that you need to receive 180 credits to successfully complete your Bachelor's studies, and 120 credits to successfully complete your Master's studies.

This means that you need to complete at least 30 credits per semester.

Compulsory-elective and Elective Courses

At the beginning of the semester, you may be asked to choose a compulsory-elective subject.
Where to find the subjects you can choose from? Look at the complete curriculum of your study programme.

Bachelor degree curriculums

Master degree curriculums

Note that Master's students may need to sign up for additional elective subjects in order to have enough credits at the end of the academic year. Ask your Study Office for an offer of the elective subjects.

A course may be attempted a maximum of three times. When re-registered, the course follows the same conditions as during the original registration.

Exams

  • Cr+ZK (Course-credit + Exam) – First, you need to complete assignments/tests during the semester (Cr). Only then you can take the final exam (ZK)
  • ZK (Exam) – Usually no requirements during the semester; only pass the exam in the exam period
  • KZ (Marked course-credit) – No final exam; you finish the subject during the semester and get a grade for your coursework/tests
  • Cr (Course-credit) – Usually only attendance or simple requirements; no exam and no grade

Your teacher will explain all the requirements for that specific subject in your first lecture.

Exam Period

Students typically have to complete about 5 exams per semester. Some may be written tests, others oral, but the most important and most difficult subjects often include both written and oral parts. In that case, you have to pass a written test first to get Cr and be admitted to the final oral exam.

Teachers will inform you about the exam category and requirements in advance so you can prepare properly.

How exams work:

  • You schedule the exams yourself. It is up to you in which order you complete them, but your goal is to complete all
  • Your professors will insert exam dates in the SIS
  • You will see the dates, times, and lecture rooms where the exam takes place
  • When registering for the exam, you can pick any date you like (if the capacity is not full)
  • If you need to change a term after you registered, it’s usually possible via SIS. If you do not attend the exam, you lose the attempt, and your teacher will mark it as F (Fail)
