Welcome to the UCT Prague Campus!

Our university is located in the heart of the Dejvice campus, which is shared by four major institutions:

  • University of Chemistry and Technology Prague (UCT Prague)
  • Czech Technical University (CTU)
  • Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University (CTF)
  • Czech National Library of Technology (NTK)

If you decide, or have already decided, to study at UCT Prague, this place will not become only your academic home base, but also much more than that! The Dejvice campus has plenty to offer, from student events and canteens to cafés and study places in between.

So, let’s start with the most important thing…

Where to eat?

The cheapest and fastest way is to eat on campus is in the student canteens. There are two of them, often called the red and blue canteens on the campus:

  • The red canteen, officially called Menza Studentský dům, is located at Bílá 6, Prague 6
  • The blue canteen, officially called Technická menza, is located at Jugoslávských partyzánů 3, Prague 6

They are open on weekdays during the semester.  The food is tasty and you don’t have to worry if you are vegetarian, there are always some meat free options. The only thing you should be careful about is saving some space for a dessert! You can find more information about canteens and how to pay with your student card here!

If you’d like to try a meal at classic restaurant or pub, you won’t have to go far. Our campus is surrounded by restaurants, pubs, fast food spots and cafés. Just take a short walk to Vítězné náměstí, and you will find yourself surrounded by plenty of great places to eat.

Another option is to use the school buffet Kafion (located in the building A, just behind the main entrance, straight ahead and few steps down). They offer baguettes, sandwiches, panini, salads, soups and of course coffee and other refreshments. The buffets are open most of the day on weekdays, and you can pay with cash or card.

The last place at our university, where you can grab some small snack and refreshments is student club Carbon. Carbon is located in building B, to the left of the main entrance down the stairs. Besides coffee, beer and light snacks, it also serves as the hub for pub quizzes and various student events, which are regularly held here.

And if you’re running late to your lecture, you can always grab something from one of the vending machines, they are practically around every corner. They offer baguettes, sweets and drinks, and you can pay with cash or card as well.

Last but not least, if you decide to cook at home and just reheat your food at university you can use several microwaves available for students

Are you more interested in what to do?

Campus Dejvice and our university offer much more than just great places to eat. It’s not unusual to walk out of class and suddenly find yourself in the middle of a big event, that you didn’t even know was happening! That’s thanks to active student organizations like 4Students or Kampus Dejvice and close cooperation among Prague universities. Thanks to them, you can look forward to variety of events throughout the semester from Kampus fest Dejvice, KaCheKRAN, Hanami and Cross Campus, to Lesamáj and Jižák LIVE!

What about some studying in between all the fun?

If you ever find yourself staring at your notes the night before the exam wondering where all the time went, don’t worry! There are plenty of great places to study on and around the campus. Let’s start with library.

National Technical Library (NTK)

The National Technical Library, or just NTK, as many students call it, is the largest and oldest library of technical literature in the Czech Republic, with capacity of almost one million volumes! And the best part? It’s located right in front of building A, and you can use it not only to study but also to borrow books and more!

Registration at NTK is free and comes with plenty of benefits: borrowing or reserving materials, using library computers, accessing Wi-Fi and electronic resources, booking study rooms, printing/scanning/copying and more.

What do you need to register? As a UCT student, just your student card! You can pre-register online or do it in person at NTK it only takes a few minutes, and the registration desk is on the first floor.

If you want to book a team or individual study room, you can do so through NTK reservation system by logging into your account. The price for team study room is 30 CZK per hour. An individual study room can be booked minimal for one day starting at 50 CZK. But be aware and book individual study rooms ahead of time since they can be fully booked out.

Don’t worry, even if all the rooms are taken, there’s plenty of space to study in the public areas of the library. Just keep in mind that during exam season, it can get quite crowded.

If you need to print, scan or copy something in the library, you can do so from any of the computers. Simply press print on the computer you are using, select library printer, and send your document. Then, go to the printer, log in using your student card, and if you have enough balance on your card the printer will start printing. The cost is 1,80 CZK for a black and white and 5 CZK a color page.

Respirium I & II

If you find yourself too lazy to walk to NTK, you can use one of the two study/relaxation rooms in building B, known as Respirium I & II. Both spaces offer power sockets and plenty of natural light.

Respirium I is located to the right of the main entrance. It’s a large space with plenty of chairs and tables that can be used for studying or just eating your lunch. You’ll also find there a microwave, a kettle and vending machines with snacks and drinks. There’s even a cloakroom where you can leave your coat or luggage and at the same place you can also buy school merchandise! Respirum I is open on weekdays during the semester from 7:00 to 19:00.

Respirum II on the other hand is a bit smaller, but it’s equipped with very comfortable chairs and cushions, making it a great place to relax or take a break if you’re not quite in the mood to study. There’s also a vending and coffee machines available one floor above. Respirium II is located on the first floor of building B, in the corner facing Dejvická station.

What about some fresh air?

Want to get out of schoo and get some fresh air? Good news, there are two inner courtyards at our university where you can relax, replenish your vitamin D and enjoy a bit of blue sky.

  • U komína (By the chimney) – located in building B, next to Carbon. There is even a bike rack, where you can lock up your bike, just ask at the reception.
  • Apsida – located in building A, across from room AS68 (from the main entrance, turn right, walk down the hallway until you see stairs on the left, go down, turn left again, and you’ll find the door to the courtyard on your left). When the weather is nice, various cultural events takes place here, but you can always study here.

Classroom K1 and school computers

For teamwork, project work, tutoring, or just discussing lectures you can book classroom K1 on the 3rd floor of building B. The rooms fit up to 10 people and is equipped with a projector and a blackboard.

Reservations can be made via the calendar of the mailex application. Once your reservation is confirmed, you can pick up the key at the building B reception. Don't forget your ISIC or student card for identification.

If you need to use a school computer, there are freely accessible computers in room B1-238 (1st floor of building B, part of Zikova, between classroom B15 and Respirium II). A student card is required to enter the room.

Additional computers specially designed for printing, are available in the Copy Center (basement of building B – room S82).

And some other important stuff

Since we already covered what to eat, where to study and what to do, it’s time to go over a few other handy and important things. Like how and where to get your student card, how to use copy center and how to connect to school Wi-Fi.

Card center

One of the first thing you’ll need to take care of is getting your student card. Your student card will become your best friend, always carry it with you! You’ll use it to enter school buildings and computer rooms, for cashless payments when printing and copying, and to pay for meals in the canteens.

You have two options: you can either get an ISIC card or a UCT Prague university card.

ISIC card

  • Internationally accepted; gives access to many discounts at stores
  • Can be connected to the PID Lítačka app (Prague public transportation), allowing you to buy discounted transport tickets (students under the age of 26)
  • Costs 300 CZK

UCT Prague university card

  • Free of charge

How, when and where can you get it?

On the Enrolment Day, you will be guided to the Card center (located in room S06, in the basement of building B, next to Carbon). To get your ISIC/university card, you’ll be photographed on the spot; bringing your own photo isn’t possible. Just bring your passport (and money in cash to pay for ISIC if you opt for it). The card is then made on the spot, so the whole process is pretty quick. The card center is also helpful if your card gets lost, damaged or simply just somehow stops working. You can find opening hours and more information here:

Copy center

If you need to print, scan, copy, bind or even laminate something you can do so in Copy center right in our school. It is located in the building B in room S82. The copy centrum also offers printing final theses and self-service printing. Self-service printing works on the same principle as in NTK. The price of printing a black and white page is 0,90 CZK and for color page 6,50 CZK.

School Wi-Fi

How could you work without one of the modern basic human needs – Wi-Fi? Luckily, the entire university and even the dormitories are covered by two fast and reliable Wi-Fi networks. To connect to both, you’ll use your school credentials.

  • For the „vscht“ network, use only the first part of your login (novakm).
  • For the „eduroam“ network, use your full school login (novakm@vscht.cz).
