Enrollment in the Next Semester or Year
Information about enrollment for the next semester or academic year can be found here.
Termination of the studies
Reasons for early termination of studies may include:
- insufficient credits obtained (see here)
- your own decision not to continue your studies
- expiration of the maximum period of study
By the university:
- At the end of the academic year if you did not earn enough ECTS.
- In the first year, an insufficient number of ECTS obtained may also lead to termination after the winter semester.
- On the date when the maximum study period expires.
By the student:
The student terminates the study programme themselves on a date of their choosing. In this case, it is necessary to fill out and submit a Termination of Studies Announcement (here).
The preferred method is to upload and send the notice through SIS (in Personal Data → Sent Documents, document type “Termination of Studies Announcement”). It may also be delivered in person to the faculty office (Dean’s Office).
If you are leaving after at least one full semester of study, you may also need to submit an Exit Clearance Form (RCF) (here). Consult your study officer in that case.
Suspension of the studies
During the suspension of studies, the student loses official student status. Therefore, they cannot continue to use student benefits (fare discounts, etc.) and do not fulfil the purpose of their stay in the Czech Republic if holding a visa or residence permit with the purpose of "study".
- In certain cases, studies can be suspended at the student's request. For example, in the case of long-term illness, a difficult life situation, pregnancy, birth or parenthood, being a member of the Czech sports team, and similar reasons.
- In the case of study suspension due to parenthood or serious illness, the maximum study period is extended by the suspension period. In other cases, the suspension period is included in the maximum study period.
- To suspend studies, it is necessary to submit a Request for Suspension of Studies (see the general request here) addressed to the Dean of your faculty, or in the case of students of the School of Business, to the Vice-Rector for Pedagogy (through the study department), together with an Exit Clearance Form (ECF) (here).
- Subsequently, the student will receive the official decision on the suspension of studies.
- Before submitting the request for suspension of studies, it is always advisable to communicate with the study officer about the necessary requirements.
- The Request for Suspension of Studies specifies how long the study will be interrupted. Before the deadline, it is necessary to visit the study officer or contact the Study Office.
Thinking About Termination/Suspension?
Suspending or terminating your studies is a big step. For example, if you are unsure whether studying at UCT Prague or in your chosen study programme is the right choice, we recommend consulting your decision and questions with an expert. A free career counselling service is available for students, where you can discuss your strengths and weaknesses, interests and career prospects with a counsellor and receive guidance. Studying at UCT Prague opens many career opportunities for you, so it would be a pity to give up early.
If the reason for suspending or terminating your studies is a health or social problem or other serious difficulty, it is possible to apply for an exceptional study plan (ESP). The exceptional study plan regulates the schedule for fulfilling your study obligations (see Article 20 of the Study and Examination Rules of the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, available in the section Studying – Internal Regulations and Documents). Seek information from your study officer.
Change of specialization or study program
In all cases, it is advisable to consult your study officer about the procedure.
When changing, the student must complete all missing mandatory and elective courses of the new study specialization or programme.
It is possible.
You must submit an application for a change of specialization to the dean’s office of your faculty or study department. The application can be submitted at any time, usually at the beginning of the semester.
The dean of the faculty may make the change conditional on passing differential examinations.
