Study Information System (SIS)

The Study Information System (SIS) is the platform UCT Prague uses to provide students with all information related to their studies. You can access it here:

Study Information System (SIS)

From now on, SIS will be your primary university web resource. This guide is here to help you navigate it. We understand that SIS can seem complicated at first—even local students often feel a bit lost. Since you’ve already shown courage by studying in a foreign country, don’t worry—you are not alone, and this guide aims to answer your questions.

Course Enrolment

First-Year Students

Compulsory courses (subjects) for the first winter semester are pre-registered. On Enrollment Day, students studying at the Faculty of Chemical Technology need to visit the Study Office to choose compulsory-elective subjects.

Bachelor students must also register for Physical Education or a Sport Course. More information is available on the Department of Physical Education and Sport website.

At the end of the first semester, you may need to visit the Study Office in person to register for the second-semester courses. Procedures vary across faculties, so contact your Study Office for guidance, and remember to bring all necessary documents.

Second Year
Enrollment in Elective Courses and Physical Education

Study plans are mostly fixed. Usually, there are one or two compulsory-elective courses that you can select from a provided list. About 1–2 weeks before the semester begins, check the SIS > SCHEDULING section—you will see a draft of your schedule (no action required).

However, elective courses (if applicable) and physical education are not included yet.

A few weeks before the new semester, SIS will display updates on the front page, including enrollment opening dates and deadlines. We recommend completing enrollment as soon as possible.

STEPS

  • Review your study plan and the list of physical education courses in advance
  • The SUBJECTS AND SCHEDULE REGISTRATION section in SIS will guide you through the process
  • Under the Enrollment (study plan) tab, you will find compulsory courses, elective courses, and physical education options. Simply click the circle next to a course code and select Enroll

Note: Elective courses may also have a Preliminary Enrollment at the end of the previous semester. Your Dean’s office will notify you in advance.

TIPS
  • Always check that all your subjects appear in your schedule
  • If something is missing, contact your Study Office. Online inquiries are safe and efficient, and visiting the office is possible—just check office hours and remain polite
  • Familiarise yourself with your study plan, including current semester requirements and upcoming courses. All study plans are available online
  • Spend time exploring SIS. Over time, it will become much easier
  • For major events, you will receive email invitations to your university account—check it regularly. Your faculty website can also provide helpful updates

Personal Details & Bank Account

Ensure all personal details are up-to-date.

To make changes, go to SIS > PERSONAL DATA > Data Change, edit the required information, and click Save.

Adding a Czech bank account is important if you plan to apply for a merit-based scholarship. You can apply starting from the second semester provided:

  • Your average grade is between 1.00–1.80
  • You have earned at least 25 credits
  • You have completed all your courses

To add your account, go to SIS > PERSONAL DATA > Data Change > Account Number.

Tuition Fee Payment

Go to SCHOLARSHIP AND FEES > Fees in SIS for tuition fee information.

  • Payment options include QR code, online card payment, or bank transfer.
  • Tuition is due for a semester

Exams

There are four main types of examinations, based on the subject complexity:

  • Cr + ZK (Course-credit + Exam) – Usually the most challenging subjects. Complete homework, assessments, or course-credit tests to earn the Cr. Once recorded in SIS, you may take the final exam (ZK).
  • ZK (Exam) – Only a final exam is required; no other obligations during the semester.
  • KZ (Marked Course-credit) – No final exam; grades are based on assignments or tests.
  • Cr (Course-credit) – Completion of semester requirements (e.g., attendance) with no exam or grade.

Exam Period

Students typically have about 5 exams per semester. Exams may be written, oral, or both. For Cr + ZK courses, passing the Cr is required before the final oral exam. Professors will provide exam details and requirements in advance.

Scheduling Exams

  • Schedule exams yourself through SIS > EXAMINATION TERMS > Register.
  • Choose your preferred date (subject to availability) and click Register.
  • You can change the date until a deadline (usually hours before the exam). Failure to attend results in an F (Fail) in SIS.

End of Exam Period

  • After passing all exams, go to SUMMARY OF EXAMINATION RESULTS > Validations and request validation of your results for the current semester.
  • Once validated, you are finished. Rest, relax, prepare for the next semester, or enjoy your break.

Tips from Older Students

  • Don’t waste your time! The exam period is only 6 weeks long
  • You have 3 attempts for each exam in the examination period
  • Don’t collapse when you fail on your first attempt. It is just the way it works around here; it happens to many people, and it is actually good to have this experience. Believe it or not, it will make you stronger.
  • Think about the possible failures when planning your exams. Not everything might go just as you’d wish.
  • If you fail all 3 attempts, you can re-enroll in the same course and repeat it from the beginning.
  • To be able to enroll in the second semester, you need to have at least 15 credits.
  • To be able to enroll in the third semester, the maximum amount of allowed missing credits altogether is 15!
  • Don’t postpone the hardest exams!

Your study program is like a chain. The biggest and hardest courses usually have prerequisites (requirements of fulfilled previous courses).

For example General and Inorganic Chemistry. A very important compulsory course worth 8 credits. It is desirable to pass this course in the first semester, because it is one of the prerequisites for Inorganic Laboratories in the second semester (again, very important course).

What could happen if you fail General and Inorganic Chemistry?

If you don't pass the General and Inorganic Chemistry course (for instance, you haven't passed the course-credit, thus couldn't attend the exam), the SIS will not allow you to enroll in Inorganic Laboratories. Your study plan gets shifted, and you might end up prolonging your studies.

Why?

Inorganic Laboratories is strictly a spring semester course.

If you re-enroll in the  General and Inorganic Chemistry in the following summer semester, and successfully pass it, you have to wait till the next summer semester to enroll in the Inorganic Laboratories.

Inorganic Laboratories are a prerequisite for Organic Laboratories, therefore, you would need to wait to be enrolled in the Organic Laboratories till you pass the Inorganic Laboratories first.

The Study Office will automatically register you for the course you failed, and you will be able to see it in your new schedule.

There is one chance to “save yourself “. The lecturer might insert a few dates for an early exam at the beginning of the semester. That means you might still have a chance to pass both: the General and Inorganic Chemistry and the Inorganic Laboratories in one semester and get yourself out of trouble.
