Study Materials
Basic information about each course and the corresponding study materials can be found in SIS, in the so-called course syllabus. The syllabus includes:
- course content and objectives
- recommended literature
- weekly hours and workload
- ECTS credit value
- teaching method (lecture, seminar, etc.)
- assessment method (exam, test, etc.)
During the first class at the beginning of the semester, the instructor usually provides all necessary information about the course, including the most up-to-date study materials. In many cases, they also recommend useful websites (or you can ask them for tips).
TIP! Before you start studying, check that your study materials match the scope of the course as described in the syllabus. If not, consult the materials listed in SIS or the e-learning platform to make sure you have the most recent edition.
To Borrow
National Technical Library (NTK)
- Printed and electronic resources free of charge.
- Organizes courses in information literacy, correct citation, working with academic text, etc.
- Provides other library services: rental of study rooms, research services, interlibrary loan service and many others.
- Registration at the NTK is free of charge for UCT students and can be done directly at the library. You will need proof of identity and a card with your photo and name (ISIC or UCT card). You can speed up the process by pre-registering. Pre-registration is valid for 30 days.
- Electronic resources in the fields of chemistry, technology, and related natural sciences.
- A joint platform of the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (ÚOCHB), and the National Technical Library (NTK).
- You can log in to the system using your school login and password.
To Buy
- Scripts and textbooks produced by the UCT Prague publishing house.
- Printed and electronic learning materials.
- Electronic scripts are available in PDF format for UCT students and staff free via the publisher's website or through the e-learning system.
University Bookshop for Specialized Literature
- You can buy teaching materials directly in the store or via the e-shop.
- The store is located on the ground floor of the CTU Student House (Bílá 6, 160 80 Prague 6, entrance from Kolejní Street).
Script Exchange
- Tutor's script exchange takes place regularly at the start of each semester (around Week 2).
- Online Script Exchange on Facebook – a group created for year-round second-hand sales of scripts and textbooks.
- Primary UCT Prague e-learning portal.
- A place to share educational materials between teachers and students, including exercises and subject materials. For some courses, you can print or download presentations before lectures and write notes directly in them.
- You can log in to the e-learning system using your school login and password.
TIP! Don’t miss the Learning, Mental Health, Coping Skills course. It offers materials, worksheets, and app suggestions that will help you during your studies—whether for study techniques or managing stress and wellbeing during demanding periods.
- A platform for online teaching and sharing of teaching materials, including a mobile app.
- Allows videoconferences, online cooperation, and live interaction.
- You can log in using your school credentials.
Microsoft Office 365
- Once you begin your studies, all students are granted access to 100 GB OneDrive storage and a suite of office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) available for free download.
- Login and download are done via portal.office.com.
- Instructions and more information are provided here.
- Programs and applications designed to support and enhance your studies, such as ChemDraw (drawing chemical formulas), EndNote (managing citations in academic texts), MatLab (mathematical calculations), and many more.
- Most of the programs are introduced in the Computer Practice course, and installation instructions are available on the Computer Center website.
- Software provided in classrooms is not intended for home use.
Remote access to University Computers and VPN
- Not all applications can be downloaded to personal computers, so you can connect to a school computer remotely (e.g., from your dorm or home).
- Please note that your work will NOT be saved after you log out, so always send your work results to your email or save them to OneDrive.
- The association of universities of the Czech Republic and the Czech Academy of Sciences
- It operates and develops the national e-infrastructure for science, research and education
- Offers for free: cloud storage (100 GB), quick sharing and file storage (up to 500 GB), arrangement of online meetings or computer and data sources for solving difficult computer tasks.
- Allow access to software used across the university and provide temporary storage space.
- You can connect to the drives as follows.
- As a student, you have access to OneDrive for Business cloud storage with 100 GB capacity.
